BOARD MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, May 2, 2000
Board members met at the home of Tracy Liberatore
Prior to the meeting, Ken Frick took pictures of the Board for his GH/MC photo
project.
President called the board meeting to order at 7:45 PM.
MINUTES: Minutes from the April meeting were reviewed, corrected and approved.
OLD BUSINESS:
- UHL PHOTOS: Tom stated that 13 photos have been copied with negatives and
now are held by Wayne. The first batch received has been digitalized and placed
on our web site. Additional photocopied prints have been sent to Tom. Pat
moved to allocate $100 for copying and printing negatives of the second set
of Uhl photos received.
- MEMORIAL DAY PARADE: Tracy has arranged for Lucille Osborne and Martha Latshaw
(if she feels up to it) to ride in the car she has obtained. Alan Froman will
do an article on Field Day and the Memorial Day Parade for Grandview This
Week.
- It was suggested that we invite GH alums to join the society. Board members
will work with Boosters to obtain mailing list.
- Treasurer's Report: The May report was presented and approved.
- Subcommittee reports were given by board members:
- Membership: No report
- Technology: It was reported that our web site will soon become GHMCHS.org.
It is much shorter than previously. Wayne purchased a 2 year license for
our domain name. As of today we have had 4050 hits. We have also been
registered with search services such as Yahoo. Pat commented that we will
be linked with the Ohio Bicentennial site. Wayne has found 2 potential
grants: the Ohio Humanities Council will fund up to $5000 for a digitizing
project and the Ohio Public Libraries Network may grant up to $1000 for
efforts to put information from collections into digitized library format.
The 360 degree interactive tour of the Voelker home is now on our site.
A letter will be sent to thank the new owners for the tour. It was suggested
we also send them our 4 publications as well as copies of the photos we
took of their new home
- Newsletter: No report
- Breezeway: Pat is working with Tracy on Field Day photos & hopes to
have in place by the middle of May. He will work with Tom Wagenbrenner
to see what Tom wants to keep in the display of the previous photos.
- OHIO/2003: We were approved for a marker at the Bank Block.Tracy restated
the 4 criteria needed to become a Bicentennial Community: commemorative,
legacy, education, and community celebration. We are complying with 1)
our Bicentennial marker, 2) Don Bell's community program of planting trees
for the future, 3) the library film, and 4) a proposed all Grandview/Marble
cliff community picnic. Ideas are to have the meat provided, heritage
related food brought as side dishes, field day exercises, and a soap box
derby event. Wayne will follow up with Mayor Sexton and non-profit Soap
Box Derby officials.
- Home Tour 2001: Tom and Win reported a productive meeting was held.
A "tour" blueprint is being developed. Our Lady of Victory Church will
be used as a display area with plans to view homes on Roxbury. However,
it was agreed to also keep a home not on Roxbur) in the mix since they
have already volunteered to be on the tour. Some homeowners have already
been approached but no definite commitments.
- Liaison Report:MC Bill No report; GH Wayne Presented to GH Council.
Made several points: 1) We are available as a community resource and our
archives are available for historical purposes, 2) Asked for money to
help underwrite our newsletter in order to distribute to the whole community,
3) asked for $2000 towards our historical marker, 4) requested a Council
volunteer to work with Tracy on the Bicentennial Celebration---David Jackson
volunteered. Tom was also present when Wayne presented and was very disappointed
with the lack of response or questions from Council. He followed up with
an e-mail to Council President Ray DeGraw. Wayne stated he would go back
to Council with a formal presentation; SCHOOLS Tom No report; CHAMBER
Jo Ann Going to meeting the 17th to ask for Bicentennial volunteer.
