BOARD MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, August 8, 2000 (moved from August 1)
Board members met in the Grandview Heights Public Library Conference Room
President called the board meeting to order at 7:05 PM.
MINUTES: Minutes from the June meeting were approved.
OLD BUSINESS:
- Treasurer's Report: The August report was presented and approved.
- It was agreed to leave the current breezeway display until Oct. then replace
with a sports theme to run through the winter.
- Subcommittee reports were given by board members:
- Membership: New memberships were reported, and membership numbers were
given
- Technology: : Wayne reported we are getting about 300 hits per month
on our website and the transition to the new site is complete. Pat updated
us on his correspondence with Anita Nixon concerning her inquiry about
the Deshler Hotel. Her initial query came as a result of her visit to
the website.
- Newsletter: Pat plans to have the newsletter to the printer by Aug.
15 and mailed the week of the 20th. A mock up was distributed to all board
members to be proofed before the end of this week. The membership will
be asked for help in identifying individuals in some of the group photos.
Also the new website address will be mentioned. The work prepared by Margie
continues to be professionally presented and greatly appreciated. Bill
volunteered to find someone to write an article for the Nov. newsletter
about the Marble Cliff annual Christmas party.
- Breezeway: Pat is working with Tracy on Field Day photos & hopes to
have in place by the middle of May. He will work with Tom Wagenbrenner
to see what Tom wants to keep in the display of the previous photos.
- OHIO/2003: Tracy has the contract for the marker and will mail back.
Ohio Historical Society added information about Don Casto to the double
sided text. Our cost will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $480.00.
Wayne will ask GH City Council for monetary assistance towards payment
for the marker. In the meantime a check will be sent to cover the cost
so the process can continue. It will take about 3 months to finish and
then will be stored at the GH Library until ready for installation. Grandview's
new city engineer needs to be hired before placement can be finalized.
Currently Julie Gafford is the city's contact person.
- Home Tour 2001: Ruthanne reviewed houses considered previously. There
will be further discussion regarding hospitality next Board meeting. Other
chairpersons: Margie--PR, Jo Ann--financial, Pat--research coordinator.
Each captain will research their own home. .
- Liaison Report:
- MC Bill 100th birthday celebration organizational meeting is 8-13-00.
Bill will attend.
- GH Wayne Discussion of the GHMCHS relationship to the First Avenue
Festival organizing effort
- SCHOOLS Tom Tom will invite appropriate GH American History classes
to the annual meeting.
- CHAMBER No report
NEW BUSINESS
- The following Board members are up for election to 3 year terms (2000-2003)
at the annual meeting: Wayne Carlson, Win Keller, Sally Kosnik, and Pat Mooney.
All agreed to continue if elected.
- ANNUAL MEETING: Tracy announced the program for the annual meeting to be
held on Sept. 10, 2000, from 2-4 PM at the Grandview Heights Public Library.
Caroline Van Deusen will present a collection from her great-great grandmother's
personal items relating to her friendship with President Lincoln and his wife
Mary. A short business meeting will precede the program, Wayne and Jo Ann
will provide beverages and Tom will monitor the display table. He will also
contact the FCS teacher at school to see if students will participate as part
of their community service project. Books, memberships, and T-shirts will
be sold.
