Secretary: The minutes for the January 3, 2006 meeting were
approved.
Treasurer: Tom reviewed the general ledger.
Committee Reports:
Technology: No report
Membership: Tracy is updating Terry's list that he has left
during his indefinite absence. A discussion followed how to achieve this with
the information we have. Tracy will send the Excel spreadsheet to Wayne so it
can be deciphered and appropriately checked for accuracy. A new life membership
has been received from Jamie Green as well as a one-year gift membership to
H. George Seiple, 1767 Grace Lane, Columbus, OH 43220.
Schools: Jeri has presented copies (4) of Between The Rivers
to the Grandview Schools for teaching purposes and ultimately to be kept in
the school libraries. She has also given one to Mike Dexter, the designer of
Grandview's centennial logo.
City: Joe continues to work on receiving money from the city.
Newsletter: As it is time to order a new supply of newsletter
blanks, Pat recommends a number to equal several years' supply. The Board authorized
the purchase of 2000 blanks. The next edition of the newsletter will be the
end of February. Grandview's 1906 incorporation and centennial celebration will
be the lead article. New Discoveries from Tom and Wayne will focus on Architect
Frank Packard houses. The new centennial logo will be used.
Breezeway: The centennial logo will be in the next display.
Headlines from 100 years ago as well as the proposed 100-year celebration activity
dates will be included. Jeri will send the list to Mary or Pat.
Current Projects:
Between the Rivers: Approximately 200 books have been sold. Other thoughts for
future projects include editing and updating the information in Sheltering a
Heritage or compiling a collection of the homes that have been on our tours.
Centennial: The community kickoff breakfast was well attended
and several books were sold. Jeri gave an overview of scheduled activities.
May 13 Kickoff of 100 days
May 25 Sandi Latimer's walk with Olentangy Owls
May 27 Memorial Day Parade
June 23-25 Bike Race
July 22 Lazy Daze
Aug 20 Mayor's Centennial Picnic (wrap-up event)
Old Business:
Marble Cliff is unable to give any money or other donations at this time. Tracy
was not contacted when St. Raphael's time capsule was removed. It will be opened
at some other time. Demolition has begun.
It was the consensus of the board to not join the Ohio Preservation Council.
New Business:
The date of the Annual Meeting will be Sunday September 17, 2006. Our speaker
will be Sandi Latimer from Greenlawn Cemetery. She also needs names of Grandview
residents buried in Greenlawn for her May 6th walking tour.
Pat presented information on the Ohio Association of Historical Society and
Museums annual meeting in Canal Winchester on March 11, 2006. Anyone interested
in attending please let him know by March 1.
Tom received an abstract from Chet Britt for the property at 1696 Merrick Rd
and will return it after making a copy.
Wayne has been in contact with a grandson of Carolyn Thomas Hornsberger. As
a result the grandson will be sending pictures that will be a great addition
to our collection.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 PM.
Next meeting will be held March 7, 2006 at 7:00 PM in the Conference Room of
the Grandview Heights Public Library.
Respectfully submitted,
Sally Kosnik
Acting Secretary
BOARD MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, January 3, 2006
President Tracy Liberatore called the January meeting to order at the Grandview Heights Public Library. Present at the meeting were Wayne Carlson, Jeri Diehl Cusack, Tom DeMaria, Ruth Ann James, Sally Kosnik, Tracy Liberatore, Joe Miller, Pat Mooney and Karen Riggs. Absent were board member Mary Burkey and archivist Terry Smith.
Secretary's Report: The minutes for the November 1, 2005 meeting were unanimously approved.
Treasurer's Report: Tom reported on expenses and income for November and December 2005.
The Treasurer's report was approved unanimously.
Committee Reports:
Technology: Wayne's report was combined with the discussion of current projects.
Schools: No report.
City: No report.
Breezeway: Pat will discuss creating a special Centennial breezeway display with Mary. Wayne suggested laminating any posters used in the display case. A poster has been placed in the breezeway publicizing “Between the Rivers”.
Newsletter: Pat reported that the February issue of “Viewpoints” will include the President’s letter, with the lead article on the City of Grandview Heights’ 100th anniversary. Jeri will feed Pat information for the newsletter as it becomes available. There will also be a story focusing on new information on additional homes designed by architect Frank Packard.
Current Projects:
Between the Rivers: We have sold about 100 of the 500 copies ordered. Additional copies will be sold by Board members and books are also available at the Members First Credit Union, 1445 Goodale Blvd., and at Good Books on Grandview Ave. Acorn Books will be encouraged to order copies of the book through our distributor. Tracy has taken supplies of BTR to City Hall, the Middle School and the Senior Center. Ruthanne's contact information will be added to our Web site.
Centennial: Planning is progressing slowly for the 100 Days celebration. No steering committee meeting is currently scheduled, but the Society has presentations and information on local architecture, Field Days, and other topics readily available to be shared. We may try to sell BTR at Music on the Lawn concerts next summer. We will provide articles to the newspapers, and talks to the schools or Chamber as requested. More information about banner sponsorship is needed if the Society is to consider purchasing banners for the Bank Block on Grandview Avenue.
New Business:
A letter was received concerning the 1979 GHHS football team. We will clarify the details of their championship season.
Tracy, Wayne and Tom toured St. Raphael's on Friday, December 30, 2005 and a video from that visit will be added to our Web site. An architectural diagram of the building with a hot link will also be included.
We hope to have a Society representative present when the time capsule from the cornerstone is opened. We suspect much of the information enclosed there is from 1948 and concerns the Carmelite order which ran the home. Fr. Lutz will likely put the contents into the church museum housed at Holy Family parish, but the Society is looking forward to the opportunity to document the contents. We would welcome the donation of doorknobs or the call box from the original Bush mansion for our permanent collection.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Grandview Heights Public Library.
Respectfully submitted,
Jeri Diehl Cusack
